Bowen Center Huntington adds fourth medication-assisted treatment doctor to meet increased community need

Bowen Center welcomes Dr. Andrew Smith to its Huntington office. Dr. Smith has worked at Bowen Center since 2018 but has moved his office hours to the Huntington location to address an increased need for medication-assisted treatment services.

Dr. Smith joins Dr. Kishore Sriram, Dr. Ambreen Ghori, and Dr. Hani Ahmad seeing Huntington area patients for medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Smith to Huntington to expand our treatment services,” said Shelly Snyder, Bowen Center Huntington County Director. We are proud to work alongside our partners such as drug court, probation, community corrections and our local law enforcement and recovery homes to provide options for our patients to have medication assisted treatment. Dr. Smith provides compassionate care, and we are thrilled he has joined our Huntington team,” said Snyder.

Huntington County has seen a rise in overdoses and deaths as result of substance use in the last few years much like the country has experienced overall due in large part to the increase in illegal street drugs mixed with Fentanyl which is a powerful synthetic opioid. MAT is used to treat substance use disorders as well as sustain recovery and prevent overdose. The treatment uses medications, along with individual and group therapy and behavior modification coaching to provide a strong system of support for patients struggling with a substance use disorder including opioids and alcohol. Medications are used to block the euphoric effects when used and relieves the physiological cravings, allowing the body to function without the negative effects of the substance used. The goal is full recovery from the addiction.
